Trimming your wick is the easiest way to keep your candle burning properly. Always trim your wick to a 1/4 inch before the first burn to keep the flame to a safe height and reduce smoke. 

Always trim the black char from your wood wick before each burn. The black char is already spent so it will not stay lit and your flame will die out. This is the number one reason people have trouble with wood wicks.
